What is the best framework for understanding and responding to this crisis? How should we interpret the reasons and consequences of this invasion? Can this problem be avoided? What is the Kremlin's geo-strategic calculus? How can NATO, the European Union and the United Nations manage conflicts? Is there a special role for the United States? Are diplomacy and sanctions enough to prevent Russia from escalating the conflict?
Lauren Anderson '79 will join the panel to offer her insights on national and international security. As a former FBI director with national security experience, Anderson has led counterintelligence and surveillance efforts, including those targeting Russia and the former Soviet Union. He currently works as a non-resident with the Geneva Center for Security Policy and as a consultant and special adviser to the US.
Among the faculty members are Mohsin Hashim, professor of political science and director of the Russian academic program; Brian Mello, professor of political science and director of the university's Center for Ethics; and Julie Shoults, visiting professor in German studies and women's & gender studies.
